Wall heater gas valve problems?

I have a propane wall heater that I installed in 1997 that has started giving my trouble. The heater is Model # CGP28TB and Serial # 3872908, 28000BTU. Back in November, I had to replace the Thermocouple and that fixed the problem I was having at that time. Now, the heater pilot lights with no problems but, the knob controlling the gas valve will not let me turn the main burner on. I took the front cover off and watched the knob/gas valve operation and the small, white plastic tabs attached to the valve knob seem to be preventing the knob from turning on the main burner. Every once in a while the tabs will allow the knob to turn on and the wall heater works normally. Do I need a new gas valve, or control knob? Any ideas will be appreciated, thank you.
